Power of Pink Luncheon 2024

We are thrilled to announce the annual Power of Pink luncheon on Sunday, September 29 at the Skirball Cultural Center benefiting the renowned Margie Petersen Breast Center at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. The afternoon features an extraordinary, informative and inspiring program, a delightful (and healthy!) lunch, fabulous and fun boutique shopping, a luxury silent auction, and a raffle drawing.

The highlight of the day is the presentation of awards to our two honorees:

Sara Rutenberg will receive the Ruth Weil Spirit of Hope Award. Sara is a business affairs executive and attorney with over 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Outside the office, she serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services. Quite notably, Sara is a SURVIVOR and is proud to share her story of gratitude to the Margie Petersen Breast Center at Saint John’s and its director, Dr. Janie Grumley.

Melvin Jerome Silverstein, MD, FACS will receive our inaugural Advocacy for Women’s Health and Wellness Award. Dr. Silverstein is a world-renowned breast cancer surgeon who pioneered oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery in the United States. He is the Director Emeritus of the Hoag Breast Program at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, and Professor Emeritus for the Department of Surgery at Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California. He has mentored countless breast oncology surgeons, including our own Dr. Grumley, and has advanced breast cancer treatment for women worldwide.

The Margie Petersen Breast Center has been delivering comprehensive and compassionate care to patients diagnosed with breast cancer for over thirty years. Led by Dr. Grumley, the Center is a world-class leader in breast care that provides women with state-of-the-art treatment options, the latest clinical trials and supportive services that address a woman’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

The Power of Pink luncheon is the most important event of the year for the Margie Petersen Breast Center, and its success is critical to fund Saint John’s Breast Fellowship Program, Breast Cancer research, and supportive services for our patients and survivors. This is the third year we are chairing, and over the past two years, the luncheon has raised over $750,000. Our goal this year is to top $1 million for The Saint John’s Comprehensive Breast Program, and we need your help to reach our goal.
