John R. Jalas, MD, PhD, Pathology Library

On October 5, 2023, Providence Saint John’s Health Center dedicated the John R. Jalas, MD, PhD, Pathology Library—named in memory and honor of Dr. John Raymond Jalas, a beloved member of the hospital’s Pathology Department from 2009 until 2019. With Jalas’ family from Wisconsin and staff in attendance, the day served as a celebration of Jalas’ life and an opportunity for all present to tour the newly remodeled pathology library that bears Jalas’ name, a project generously funded by Jalas’ colleagues and other donors to Saint John’s Health Center Foundation.

Dr. Jalas, a graduate of one of the country’s top pathology training programs, had an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and was supremely dedicated to his patients and diagnostic trade. Around the hospital, he had built friendships with everyone. Jalas was a gift to the Saint John’s family, and this memorial will perpetuate his legacy and inspire new pathologists to follow his lead.
